How can one go to Melbourne and NOT eat their weight in delicious food?! It would be a crime to avoid eating out in Melbourne. So I have done you all a favour and put together a list of my favourite HEALTHY EATS in Melbourne. I’ve also included a few of my cheeky “not-so-healthy” faves too, because … When in Melbourne?!
Laneway Greens – I cannot believe I stumbled along this little hidden gem. Well that’s a lie I didn’t stumble upon it I was googling like a mad woman trying to find something quick and healthy while I was hangry and tired after waking at 3am to get my flight to Melbourne. Anyway. This place is incredible. They do made to order salads, most which were gluten free and plenty of options for other dietary requirements. At first I thought it was a bit pricey for a salad but upon receiving it and struggling to make my way through it all I left incredibly satisfied. I ordered the miso glazed salmon bowl and a cacao and espresso smoothie and I was not disappointed. The décor and design in this place is also fab and they have usb charging points (double bonus!!).
Green Cup – This is a must visit of mine when I’m in Melbourne. Green smoothies and acai bowls. How can you go wrong! They also have a gluten free granola option for the acai bowl too!
Rice Paper Scissors – You’ll need to book in early in the evening for this one (they don’t take reservations) so you’ll need to head to the restaurant and put your name down and wait but oh my god. Worth the wait! Plus there are a million cool bars in the city you can go drink at while you wait. This place serves up Asian fusion dishes tapas style dishes and they are to-die-for! The flavour is absolutely divine! They have heaps of gluten free options (from memory nearly all of the menu aside from a few dishes). This place probably isn’t the most healthy restaurant, I mean pork belly isn’t exactly lean, but there are definantely healthier options and it’s healthier than a big creamy pasta so that counts as healthy right?
Veggie Bar – A few of my vego and vegan friends have raved about this place whenever they go to Melbs and I was staying just around the corner (well 3km walk away) so I thought I’d give it a whirl. If you are vego or vegan you will love this place and even if you’re not the meals are still amazing. I ended up getting a stay veggie and tofu stir fry and kombucha. Super satisfying.
Fourth Chapter – A bit of a newbie on the café scene, this place only opened about 6 months ago but there certainly doesn’t seem to be any teething issues. The décor is amazing, think white walls, hanging plants and wooden tables. But the food is even better. If you don’t follow them on instagram go check their acai bowl out – they have a massive dollop of peanut butter on it and peanut butter goes with everything! I ended up getting the roast pumpkin dish mostly because I’d already had acai that day (haha!) and it was so full of flavour and loaded with veggies, perfect low carb breakfast option!
So as I said I will add in some of my fave not-so-healthy Melbourne hot spots:
- Messina Gelato – cant go wrong!
- La Belle Miette – Amazing macarons! (Most gluten free too!)
- Frozen by a thousand blessings – Fro Yo!
I am SURE there are a million more delicious dessert and unhealthy places that I am yet to discover but these are always on my list when in Melbs.
There are also a few places I am dying to get to so go check them out for me when you are in Melbourne next.
- Left Field
- Matcha mylk bar
- Yo-chi frozen yoghurt
- Patch Café
